Reptiles, Birds & Exotic Pets

Mammals, yes, but also other animals…

Reptiles, birds, amphibians and fish all have a very different physiology and anatomy from mammals and need to be treated differently. We have a lot of experience with wildlife and exotic pets. Our nurses are proficient in treating and rehabilitating wildlife and Andrew Rissman has a special interest in Avian/ Reptile/ Exotic medicine, husbandry and surgery.

We can assist with advice on husbandry, nutrition, and diagnosis of disease in reptiles, birds and other exotic pets.

We are so grateful for the skilled, dedicated, respectful and sensitive care given to both our critters and ourselves from Andrew and the team.

Saving wildlife: Klown Kat Collars

Toby is modelling the Klown Kat Collars, designed to save wildlife from cats. The bright colours of the collars alert the birds and reptiles in our gardens and bush- they work much better than bells. We have these collars on display in the clinic.

Wildlife Care

If you have found an injured/ unwell wild animal, please contact us directly. We are passionate about helping the wildlife in our region where we can and putting them on the road to rehabilitation and release – like this morepork/Ruru that was treated, rehabilitated at the clinic and then released.

We have strong bonds with the Animal Sanctuary in Matakana- we often treat wildlife species to the point where they can be rehabilitated at the Sanctuary.
